About the author
Adam Zachary Wasserman is an author and independent researcher with forty years in enterprise software, including time as CTO at IATA and Director of Consulting at CGI.
Why this site exists
Adam wrote Honest Code: Stop Fighting the Machine, a book on software architecture. Its argument is that most complexity in production code comes from hiding state inside classes. To test that argument across languages, he built a set of programs and timed them in 11 languages. This site reports what the timings show about compilers, interpreters and optimizers.
How to verify the work
Every number comes from code in a public repository, honest-code-traces. The page Check our work lists the tools, versions and limits. If you find a mistake, open an issue.
